Late January Winter Salmon Fishing Report

Our mild and warm winter got disrupted by an arctic blast last week! This put a damper on the good salmon fishing we were enjoying from our Vancouver and Sidney fishing locations!    Luckily, it looks like the cold front has passed and we are going back to above normal temperatures for the rest of January and into February.  Not good news for the ski hills, but good news for winter chinook salmon fishing!  Fishing has been very good so far this winter and we are excited for what February and March brings us.

Our Vancouver fishing charters have been focussing our efforts in Howe Sound and Vancouver Harbour.   Most outings have been quite active with a good number of hook ups in the usual spots, a mix of legal and undersized chinook salmon.    The West Side of Bowen Island has been good as has Gambier Island and up towards Camp Byng.   In Vancouver Harbour, the Mile Markers and the Freighters have had some active days.   G Force Bon Chovy and Trailhead spoons have been good as have Skinny Gs and spackleback hootchies.    On some of our longer charters we have been dropping prawn traps with decent results.

We have also been fishing from our Sidney location on Vancouver Island.   The fishing has been quite active with the quite a few smaller chinook around mixed in with some nice keepers.   We have been fishing around Moresby Island, Satellite Channel and Sidney Channel.    Little Coho Killers and Wee Gees have been good bets with the smaller bait around including sand lance.  Here is a link to our Vancouver Island location.   www.bonchovy.com/fishing-packages/sidney-vancouver-island-fishing-packages.html

February and March are solid months to head out for winter chinook salmon!    Give us a call if you want to head out there, now is the time to plan your trip before winter is over!
